The results to be presented in the FORUM have been developed in the TRASFORMA laboratories network. This network is focused on the manufacturing of complex shaped components with innovative forming techniques involving fluid media instead of conventional forming tools. The mission of the network is to give a shape, even a very complex one, to a metal sheet achieving advanced and integrated components.
Assembly operations can be drastically reduced and, consequently, the post-forming static and dynamic strength of the component is strongly improved. One of the achieved results of the activities carried out in the network is the manufacturing of an automotive component of a niche vehicle (such as one from Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren, Morgan, Rolls Royce). The component is manufactured with a particular die with an integrated heating system which allows to keep the optimal temperature conditions for the superplastic forming of an aluminium alloy.
